Whether you travel for work or pleasure one thing that travelling can impact is your fitness regime. It can mess with your body clock, force you out of the gym and find you reaching for convenience food you might not otherwise consider. That is not to say that you cannot keep in shape when travelling. Yes, your normal routines might not be possible but with a little creativity, you can still keep your exercise regime and fitness levels intact. Here are some ways to stay fit whilst travelling.
Always pack to exercise
First of all, wherever you go make sure you pack clothing that will enable you to work out. A suitcase of sandals and stilettos will not make going for a run possible. So, make sure you pack the essentials, a pair of trainers, decent socks, suitable exercise clothes for the location you are going and any added extras you need. These might be headphones, phone holders, water bottles, gloves, whatever it is that will enable you to do the exercise you love. You could even pack resistance bands.
Use hotel facilities
An easy and obvious one but one that is often overlooked nonetheless. If your hotel or accommodation has fitness facilities use them, or better yet book accommodation that does. Perhaps they have a gym, a pool, fitness classes or even bike hire available. Capitalise on what they have to offer, you are paying for it after all.
Walk
Where you can, walk. Don’t be tempted to jump in an Uber or take public transport. Make the most of being somewhere new and different and walk to your next appointment or location. Take in the sights and scenery while you up your step count and walk off last night’s dinner. There is no better way to see and experience a new place. Better yet, go on a walking tour as part of your holiday, it is a great way to truly visit, explore, and learn about new places.
Take an online class
Thanks to the many lockdowns endured over the last 18 months more and more fitness facilities took their exercise classes online, and have stayed there. If you have an internet connection you have no excuse. You can still sign up and take part in your weekly fitness classes or perhaps you want to try something new while you are away. TCHI, for example, offers online Tai Chi classes for every fitness level. So whether you are a creature of habit or looking to keep it zen on holiday there will be a fitness class online for you.
Download a fitness app
If you cannot commit to a live class or the schedules do not suit your time zone then opt for a fitness app. Fitness apps, like online classes, have exploded in the last few years and you will be spoilt for choice. Some apps are free and some may require a membership, that said most offer free trials that you can take advantage of whilst on your holiday. Many apps will include programs for people who are working out at home and do not have access to an array of equipment so they will be perfect for those travelling. What is more, if you know you are likely to be without a good internet connection a lot of apps will allow you to download workouts and play them from your device as opposed to streaming them.
